# ChatPrivate vs Messenger VPN

The clearest difference is review sentiment: ChatPrivate at 95% against Messenger VPN's 32%. ChatPrivate also leads on iOS requirement (9.0 vs 12.0). Messenger VPN's advantage is rating (4.5 vs 3.0) and ratings volume (3.6K vs 6). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. ChatPrivate sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $20.49 per month and Messenger VPN sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Messenger VPN holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Messenger VPN has 3.6K ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 95% of ChatPrivate's written reviews are positive against 32% of Messenger VPN's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 5 months. Both last shipped on October 26, 2026.
