# Timeline vs SmartWOD Timer

The clearest difference is ads: Timeline at none against SmartWOD Timer's shown. Timeline also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and review sentiment (100% vs 88%). SmartWOD Timer's advantage is update cadence (every 10 days vs every 22 months) and rating (4.9 vs 4.6). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Timeline sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and SmartWOD Timer sells 11 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

SmartWOD Timer holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: SmartWOD Timer has 54K ratings behind it against 9, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of Timeline's written reviews are positive against 88% of SmartWOD Timer's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Timeline ships an update every 22 months, SmartWOD Timer every 10 days. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
