# Private Web Browser vs TOR Browser

The clearest difference is monetization model: Private Web Browser at free with in-app purchases against TOR Browser's subscription. Private Web Browser also leads on review sentiment (85% vs 74%). TOR Browser's advantage is ratings volume (19K vs 332) and device support (4 vs 2). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Private Web Browser sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days and TOR Browser sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.5 for Private Web Browser against 4.6 for TOR Browser. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: TOR Browser has 19K ratings behind it against 332, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 85% of Private Web Browser's written reviews are positive against 74% of TOR Browser's.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 13, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
