# KPVI vs Challis Messenger

The clearest difference is rating: Challis Messenger at 5.0 against KPVI's 3.6. KPVI's advantage is monetization model (ad-supported vs free with in-app purchases) and ratings volume (5 vs 1). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Challis Messenger holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 3.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: KPVI has 5 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

KPVI ships an update every 3 months, Challis Messenger every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on November 2, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
