# Sub vs Deer Crest

The clearest difference is rating: Deer Crest at 5.0 against Sub's 4.4. Deer Crest also leads on monetization model (free vs ad-supported) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.5). Sub's advantage is ratings volume (778 vs 1) and update cadence (every 5 weeks vs every 6 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Deer Crest holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Sub has 778 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Sub ships an update every 5 weeks, Deer Crest every 6 months. The most recent releases landed on October 20, 2026 and September 17, 2026 respectively.
