# WOD Machine vs SmartWOD Workout Generator

The clearest difference is monetization model: WOD Machine at free with in-app purchases against SmartWOD Workout Generator's subscription. SmartWOD Workout Generator's advantage is update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 11 months) and ratings volume (4.8K vs 2). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. WOD Machine sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and SmartWOD Workout Generator sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $3.49 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 5.0 for WOD Machine against 4.9 for SmartWOD Workout Generator. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: SmartWOD Workout Generator has 4.8K ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two.

WOD Machine ships an update every 11 months, SmartWOD Workout Generator every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on September 28, 2026 and October 21, 2026 respectively.
