# Fretcetera vs Guitar Driller

The clearest difference is monetization model: Fretcetera at free against Guitar Driller's free with in-app purchases. Fretcetera also leads on update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 2 months) and review sentiment (92% vs 78%). Guitar Driller's advantage is ratings volume (95 vs 11). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Fretcetera sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Guitar Driller sells 10 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.8 for Fretcetera against 4.7 for Guitar Driller. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Guitar Driller has 95 ratings behind it against 11, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 92% of Fretcetera's written reviews are positive against 78% of Guitar Driller's.

Fretcetera ships an update every 3 weeks, Guitar Driller every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 21, 2026 respectively.
