# coldRead vs Casting Networks

coldRead and Casting Networks both sit at 4.4 stars, but that hides the real split: 41% of coldRead's written reviews are positive against 22% of Casting Networks's. coldRead also leads on device support (4 vs 2) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 16.0). On price, rating, ratings volume and update cadence there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. coldRead sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $10.99 per month and Casting Networks sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $29.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Casting Networks holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.4. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 3.8K and 1.6K respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 41% of coldRead's written reviews are positive against 22% of Casting Networks's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

coldRead ships an update every 9 days, Casting Networks fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 2, 2026 and October 3, 2026 respectively.
