# coldRead vs Linus

coldRead and Linus both sit at 4.4 stars, but that hides the real split: 68% of Linus's written reviews are positive against 41% of coldRead's. coldRead's advantage is ratings volume (4K vs 182) and chart position (#199 vs unranked). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. coldRead sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $10.99 per month and Linus sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

coldRead holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: coldRead has 4K ratings behind it against 182, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 41% of coldRead's written reviews are positive against 68% of Linus's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

coldRead ships an update every 9 days, Linus every 5 days. The most recent releases landed on November 2, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
