# MasterClass vs Name Skillz

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Name Skillz at 85% against MasterClass's 29%. Name Skillz also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 6) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 17.6). MasterClass's advantage is price (Free vs $4.99) and rating (4.9 vs 4.4). On update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

MasterClass is free to download; Name Skillz costs $4.99 up front. MasterClass sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $119.99 per year. Name Skillz asks for nothing beyond the download.

MasterClass holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MasterClass has 123K ratings behind it against 31, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 29% of MasterClass's written reviews are positive against 85% of Name Skillz's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

MasterClass ships an update every 3 weeks, Name Skillz fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 17, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
