# SmartHR vs Malachite

The clearest difference is rating: Malachite at 3.7 against SmartHR's 2.5. SmartHR's advantage is review sentiment (33% vs 0%) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 5 weeks). On price, ratings volume, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Malachite holds the better App Store score, 3.7 against 2.5. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 6 and 3 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 33% of SmartHR's written reviews are positive against 0% of Malachite's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

SmartHR ships an update fortnightly, Malachite every 5 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 29, 2026 respectively.
