# ScanCam vs PDF Scanner + Document Scanner

The clearest difference is monetization model: PDF Scanner + Document Scanner at freemium against ScanCam's subscription. PDF Scanner + Document Scanner also leads on update cadence (every 4 days vs every 2 months) and rating (4.7 vs 4.4). ScanCam's advantage is ratings volume (470 vs 70). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. ScanCam sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days and PDF Scanner + Document Scanner sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

PDF Scanner + Document Scanner holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ScanCam has 470 ratings behind it against 70, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 74% of ScanCam's written reviews are positive against 67% of PDF Scanner + Document Scanner's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

ScanCam ships an update every 2 months, PDF Scanner + Document Scanner every 4 days. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and October 27, 2026 respectively.
