# Private Recorder vs GOM Recorder

The clearest difference is rating: Private Recorder at 4.1 against GOM Recorder's 3.3. Private Recorder also leads on ratings volume (231 vs 7). GOM Recorder's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 3) and ads (none vs shown). On price and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Private Recorder sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $19.99 per 6 months. GOM Recorder asks for nothing beyond the download.

Private Recorder holds the better App Store score, 4.1 against 3.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Private Recorder has 231 ratings behind it against 7, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 40% of Private Recorder's written reviews are positive against 67% of GOM Recorder's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Private Recorder ships an update every 5 months, GOM Recorder every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and October 18, 2026 respectively.
