# Private Recorder vs Screen Recorder

The clearest difference is ads: Screen Recorder at none against Private Recorder's shown. Screen Recorder also leads on update cadence (monthly vs every 5 months) and ratings volume (11K vs 234). On price, review sentiment, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Private Recorder sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $19.99 per 6 months and Screen Recorder sells 13 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Screen Recorder holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 4.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Screen Recorder has 11K ratings behind it against 234, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 40% of Private Recorder's written reviews are positive against 34% of Screen Recorder's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Private Recorder ships an update every 5 months, Screen Recorder monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 29, 2026 respectively.
