# HQ vs uScan

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: HQ at none against uScan's 11. HQ also leads on ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (10.0 vs 15.0). uScan's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 33 months) and ratings volume (15K vs 104). On price, rating and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. uScan sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. HQ asks for nothing beyond the download.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.7 for HQ against 4.6 for uScan. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: uScan has 15K ratings behind it against 104, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 31% of HQ's written reviews are positive against 47% of uScan's.

HQ ships an update every 33 months, uScan every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 29, 2026 respectively.
