# Writing Wizard vs Recognizing sounds

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Recognizing sounds at none against Writing Wizard's 4. Recognizing sounds also leads on review sentiment (100% vs 73%) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 15.6). Writing Wizard's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and rating (4.4 vs 4.0). On price and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Writing Wizard sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $2.49 per month. Recognizing sounds asks for nothing beyond the download.

Writing Wizard holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Writing Wizard has 5.2K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 73% of Writing Wizard's written reviews are positive against 100% of Recognizing sounds's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Writing Wizard ships an update every 4 months, Recognizing sounds every 14 months. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and September 23, 2026 respectively.
