# Defender VPN vs Element VPN

The clearest difference is rating: Defender VPN at 4.3 against Element VPN's 1.0. Defender VPN also leads on ratings volume (43 vs 1) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 12.0). Element VPN's advantage is update cadence (every 9 days vs every 18 months). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Defender VPN sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days and Element VPN sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $7.49 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Defender VPN holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 1.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Defender VPN has 43 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 0% and 0% positive.

Defender VPN ships an update every 18 months, Element VPN every 9 days. The most recent releases landed on September 30, 2026 and October 3, 2026 respectively.
