# Defender VPN vs RA VPN

The clearest difference is review sentiment: RA VPN at 50% against Defender VPN's 0%. RA VPN also leads on update cadence (every 2 months vs every 18 months). Defender VPN's advantage is rating (4.3 vs 3.5) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 12.0). On price, ratings volume, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Defender VPN sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days and RA VPN sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $8.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Defender VPN holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 3.5. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 43 and 31 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 0% of Defender VPN's written reviews are positive against 50% of RA VPN's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Defender VPN ships an update every 18 months, RA VPN every 2 months. Both last shipped on October 29, 2026.
