# Defender VPN vs Project

Defender VPN and Project both sit at 4.3 stars, but that hides the real split: 83% of Project's written reviews are positive against 0% of Defender VPN's. Project also leads on update cadence (every 2 months vs every 18 months). Defender VPN's advantage is ratings volume (43 vs 6) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 11.0). Both are free to download. Defender VPN sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days and Project sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $7.49 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.3 for Defender VPN against 4.3 for Project. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Defender VPN has 43 ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two.
