# Scanner PDF vs Scanner App

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Scanner App at 76% against Scanner PDF's 32%. Scanner App also leads on monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 3 months). Scanner PDF's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (20K vs 191). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Scanner PDF sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days and Scanner App sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Scanner App holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Scanner PDF has 20K ratings behind it against 191, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 32% of Scanner PDF's written reviews are positive against 76% of Scanner App's.

Scanner PDF ships an update every 3 months, Scanner App every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 13, 2026 respectively.
