# TrailMap vs Detector Maps

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Detector Maps at 73% against TrailMap's 30%. Detector Maps also leads on rating (4.7 vs 3.3) and update cadence (every 6 days vs every 2 months). TrailMap's advantage is monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and ads (none vs shown). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. TrailMap sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Detector Maps sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Detector Maps holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Detector Maps has 267 ratings behind it against 9, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 30% of TrailMap's written reviews are positive against 73% of Detector Maps's.

TrailMap ships an update every 2 months, Detector Maps every 6 days. The most recent releases landed on November 2, 2026 and November 4, 2026 respectively.
