# Midnight Video Camera vs IR explorer

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: IR explorer at none against Midnight Video Camera's 1. IR explorer also leads on rating (3.1 vs 2.7) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 6 weeks). Midnight Video Camera's advantage is review sentiment (44% vs 27%). On price, ads, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Midnight Video Camera sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. IR explorer asks for nothing beyond the download.

IR explorer holds the better App Store score, 3.1 against 2.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: IR explorer has 38 ratings behind it against 7, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 44% of Midnight Video Camera's written reviews are positive against 27% of IR explorer's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Midnight Video Camera ships an update every 6 weeks, IR explorer fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on September 29, 2026 and October 15, 2026 respectively.
