# Skillz vs Train Your Brain

The clearest difference is ads: Skillz at none against Train Your Brain's shown. Skillz also leads on update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 3 months). Train Your Brain's advantage is rating (4.6 vs 4.2) and ratings volume (5.8K vs 60). On price, review sentiment, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Skillz sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month and Train Your Brain sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Train Your Brain holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Train Your Brain has 5.8K ratings behind it against 60, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 53% of Skillz's written reviews are positive against 49% of Train Your Brain's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Skillz ships an update every 3 weeks, Train Your Brain every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 29, 2026 respectively.
