# Mac + MacBook User vs Opera Now

The clearest difference is rating: Opera Now at 5.0 against Mac + MacBook User's 4.0. Mac + MacBook User's advantage is monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and ratings volume (5 vs 1). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Mac + MacBook User sells 16 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per year and Opera Now sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Opera Now holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Mac + MacBook User has 5 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Mac + MacBook User ships an update every 25 months, Opera Now every 42 months. The most recent releases landed on October 8, 2026 and October 3, 2026 respectively.
