# Passpass vs Photo/Message Lock

The clearest difference is monetization model: Passpass at free with in-app purchases against Photo/Message Lock's subscription. Passpass also leads on review sentiment (79% vs 43%) and rating (4.9 vs 4.4). Photo/Message Lock's advantage is ratings volume (796 vs 47). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Passpass sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Photo/Message Lock sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Passpass holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Photo/Message Lock has 796 ratings behind it against 47, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 79% of Passpass's written reviews are positive against 43% of Photo/Message Lock's.

Passpass ships an update every 2 months, Photo/Message Lock monthly. Both last shipped on November 2, 2026.
