# SmartESS vs PhocosLink

The clearest difference is rating: PhocosLink at 3.3 against SmartESS's 2.7. PhocosLink also leads on iOS requirement (9.0 vs 13.0). SmartESS's advantage is review sentiment (20% vs 0%) and update cadence (monthly vs every 4 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

PhocosLink holds the better App Store score, 3.3 against 2.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: SmartESS has 125 ratings behind it against 9, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 20% of SmartESS's written reviews are positive against 0% of PhocosLink's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

SmartESS ships an update monthly, PhocosLink every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 13, 2026 and September 25, 2026 respectively.
