The clearest difference is rating: Learn Chess with Dr. Wolf at 4.8 against Message Games's 4.3. Learn Chess with Dr. Wolf also leads on ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (27K vs 10). Message Games's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 82%). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Learn Chess with Dr. Wolf sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per month and Message Games sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Learn Chess with Dr. Wolf holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Learn Chess with Dr. Wolf has 27K ratings behind it against 10, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 82% of Learn Chess with Dr. Wolf's written reviews are positive against 100% of Message Games's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Learn Chess with Dr. Wolf ships an update every 3 weeks, Message Games fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on November 4, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
