# XLR8 vs iTrain Hockey+

The clearest difference is ads: XLR8 at none against iTrain Hockey+'s shown. XLR8 also leads on review sentiment (100% vs 91%) and iOS requirement (11.2 vs 15.1). iTrain Hockey+'s advantage is rating (4.8 vs 4.4) and update cadence (monthly vs every 11 months). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. XLR8 sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $7.49 per month and iTrain Hockey+ sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $19.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

iTrain Hockey+ holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.4. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 8 and 38 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of XLR8's written reviews are positive against 91% of iTrain Hockey+'s, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

XLR8 ships an update every 11 months, iTrain Hockey+ monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 6, 2026 and October 11, 2026 respectively.
