# VPN99 vs Zen7 VPN

The clearest difference is monetization model: Zen7 VPN at free with in-app purchases against VPN99's subscription. Zen7 VPN also leads on review sentiment (83% vs 73%). VPN99's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (14.0 vs 17.6). On price, rating, ratings volume and update cadence there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. VPN99 sells 17 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month and Zen7 VPN sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

VPN99 holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.4. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 213 and 114 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 73% of VPN99's written reviews are positive against 83% of Zen7 VPN's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

VPN99 ships an update every 2 weeks, Zen7 VPN every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 23, 2026 respectively.
