# Authenticator vs Authentication App

The clearest difference is rating: Authentication App at 4.3 against Authenticator's 3.1. Authentication App also leads on ratings volume (592 vs 21). Authenticator's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 2) and update cadence (every 3 days vs every 2 months). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Authentication App sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month. Authenticator asks for nothing beyond the download.

Authentication App holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 3.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Authentication App has 592 ratings behind it against 21, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 83% of Authenticator's written reviews are positive against 74% of Authentication App's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Authenticator ships an update every 3 days, Authentication App every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on September 29, 2026 and October 1, 2026 respectively.
