# Dots and Boxes vs Snakes and Ladders

The clearest difference is rating: Snakes and Ladders at 4.5 against Dots and Boxes's 3.7. Snakes and Ladders also leads on ratings volume (336 vs 23). Dots and Boxes's advantage is review sentiment (47% vs 17%) and update cadence (every 2 months vs every 11 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Dots and Boxes sells 8 one-off in-app purchases and Snakes and Ladders sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Snakes and Ladders holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Snakes and Ladders has 336 ratings behind it against 23, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 47% of Dots and Boxes's written reviews are positive against 17% of Snakes and Ladders's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Dots and Boxes ships an update every 2 months, Snakes and Ladders every 11 months. Both last shipped on November 2, 2026.
