# Albany Explorer vs Tax

The clearest difference is rating: Tax at 5.0 against Albany Explorer's 3.8. Tax also leads on update cadence (weekly vs every 3 weeks). Albany Explorer's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs ad-supported). On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Tax holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Albany Explorer has 10 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Albany Explorer ships an update every 3 weeks, Tax weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 9, 2026 respectively.
