# Secure VPN vs QR Code Reader

The clearest difference is monetization model: QR Code Reader at ad-supported against Secure VPN's free with in-app purchases. Secure VPN's advantage is chart position (#177 vs unranked) and ratings volume (317 vs 39). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Secure VPN sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days and QR Code Reader sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.4 for Secure VPN against 4.3 for QR Code Reader. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Secure VPN has 317 ratings behind it against 39, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Secure VPN ships an update every 10 days, QR Code Reader every 2 weeks. Both last shipped on October 25, 2026.
