# iRobot vs SmartScanner

The clearest difference is review sentiment: iRobot at 100% against SmartScanner's 40%. iRobot also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 10) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 15.0). SmartScanner's advantage is rating (4.7 vs 3.0) and ratings volume (1.2K vs 2). On price, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. SmartScanner sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month. iRobot asks for nothing beyond the download.

SmartScanner holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: SmartScanner has 1.2K ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of iRobot's written reviews are positive against 40% of SmartScanner's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

iRobot ships an update monthly, SmartScanner every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on September 26, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
