# UniFi Protect vs Canopy Security

UniFi Protect and Canopy Security both sit at 4.8 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of Canopy Security's written reviews are positive against 52% of UniFi Protect's. UniFi Protect's advantage is ratings volume (77K vs 5) and device support (3 vs 1). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Canopy Security holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: UniFi Protect has 77K ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 52% of UniFi Protect's written reviews are positive against 100% of Canopy Security's.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 9, 2026 respectively.
