# BAS vs DefaultVPN

The clearest difference is rating: BAS at 4.3 against DefaultVPN's 3.7. BAS also leads on iOS requirement (12.1 vs 16.0). DefaultVPN's advantage is update cadence (every 4 weeks vs every 3 months) and ratings volume (58 vs 3). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

BAS holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 3.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: DefaultVPN has 58 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 36% of BAS's written reviews are positive against 43% of DefaultVPN's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

BAS ships an update every 3 months, DefaultVPN every 4 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 7, 2026 and October 12, 2026 respectively.
