# Chessify vs Bughouse Chess Online

The clearest difference is rating: Chessify at 4.4 against Bughouse Chess Online's 2.6. Chessify also leads on ratings volume (398 vs 5) and update cadence (monthly vs every 2 months). Bughouse Chess Online's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 19) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 16.0). On price, review sentiment, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Chessify sells 19 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month. Bughouse Chess Online asks for nothing beyond the download.

Chessify holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 2.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Chessify has 398 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 46% of Chessify's written reviews are positive against 50% of Bughouse Chess Online's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Chessify ships an update monthly, Bughouse Chess Online every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
