# Sonar Mobile vs Journal.ai

The clearest difference is rating: Journal.ai at 5.0 against Sonar Mobile's 4.2. Journal.ai also leads on update cadence (every 3 days vs every 6 weeks). Sonar Mobile's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs ad-supported). On price, review sentiment, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Journal.ai holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Sonar Mobile has 10 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 100% and 100% positive.

Sonar Mobile ships an update every 6 weeks, Journal.ai every 3 days. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 13, 2026 respectively.
