# Hy vs Van Meter

The clearest difference is rating: Van Meter at 5.0 against Hy's 4.2. Van Meter also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). Hy's advantage is ratings volume (20K vs 2) and update cadence (weekly vs every 5 weeks). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Van Meter holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Hy has 20K ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Hy ships an update weekly, Van Meter every 5 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 17, 2026 and October 8, 2026 respectively.
