# Scanner Vault vs Basic Scan

The clearest difference is monetization model: Scanner Vault at free with in-app purchases against Basic Scan's subscription. Scanner Vault also leads on ratings volume (15K vs 294). On price, rating, review sentiment and update cadence there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Scanner Vault sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $29.99 per year and Basic Scan sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for Scanner Vault against 4.5 for Basic Scan. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Scanner Vault has 15K ratings behind it against 294, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 94% and 95% positive.

Scanner Vault ships an update fortnightly, Basic Scan every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 13, 2026 and October 7, 2026 respectively.
