# ESP Home vs MQTT

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: MQTT at none against ESP Home's 4. ESP Home's advantage is update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 11 months) and iOS requirement (11.4 vs 15.0). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. ESP Home sells 4 one-off in-app purchases. MQTT asks for nothing beyond the download.

ESP Home ships an update every 2 weeks, MQTT every 11 months. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and September 12, 2026 respectively.
