# Writer! vs Writer Gadget

Writer! and Writer Gadget both sit at 4.0 stars, but that hides the real split: 70% of Writer Gadget's written reviews are positive against 34% of Writer!'s. Writer Gadget also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 6). Writer!'s advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 4 weeks vs every 3 months). On price, rating, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Writer! sells 6 one-off in-app purchases. Writer Gadget asks for nothing beyond the download.

Writer! holds the better App Store score, 4.0 against 3.8. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 119 and 31 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 34% of Writer!'s written reviews are positive against 70% of Writer Gadget's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Writer! ships an update every 4 weeks, Writer Gadget every 3 months. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
