# Play Steps vs Steps

The clearest difference is rating: Steps at 4.7 against Play Steps's 3.8. Steps also leads on ratings volume (5.5K vs 5). Play Steps's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 80%) and device support (3 vs 1). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Steps holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Steps has 5.5K ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of Play Steps's written reviews are positive against 80% of Steps's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Play Steps ships an update every 9 days, Steps weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 8, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
