# Video Highlighter vs 'splain

The clearest difference is rating: 'splain at 5.0 against Video Highlighter's 3.4. 'splain also leads on price ($1.99 vs $3.99) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 11.0). Video Highlighter's advantage is ratings volume (5 vs 1). On review sentiment, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Video Highlighter costs $3.99 and 'splain $1.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

'splain holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 3.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Video Highlighter has 5 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of Video Highlighter's written reviews are positive against 45% of 'splain's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Video Highlighter ships an update every 44 months, 'splain every 29 months. The most recent releases landed on September 24, 2026 and October 12, 2026 respectively.
