# Chess Royale vs Chess Coach Lite

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Chess Coach Lite at none against Chess Royale's 13. Chess Coach Lite also leads on ads (none vs shown) and review sentiment (71% vs 60%). Chess Royale's advantage is rating (4.5 vs 4.2) and ratings volume (20K vs 6). On price, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Chess Royale sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per 7 days. Chess Coach Lite asks for nothing beyond the download.

Chess Royale holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Chess Royale has 20K ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 60% of Chess Royale's written reviews are positive against 71% of Chess Coach Lite's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Chess Royale ships an update every 5 weeks, Chess Coach Lite every 4 months. Both last shipped on October 22, 2026.
