# Chess Royale vs Online Preference LiveGames

The clearest difference is ads: Online Preference LiveGames at none against Chess Royale's shown. Online Preference LiveGames also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.5). Chess Royale's advantage is ratings volume (20K vs 3) and chart position (#182 vs unranked). On price, review sentiment, update cadence and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Chess Royale sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per 7 days and Online Preference LiveGames sells 9 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Online Preference LiveGames holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Chess Royale has 20K ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 60% of Chess Royale's written reviews are positive against 52% of Online Preference LiveGames's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Chess Royale ships an update every 5 weeks, Online Preference LiveGames every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 27, 2026 and October 20, 2026 respectively.
