# Chess Royale vs Blunders

The clearest difference is rating: Blunders at 5.0 against Chess Royale's 4.5. Blunders also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 5 weeks). Chess Royale's advantage is ratings volume (20K vs 2) and chart position (#173 vs unranked). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Chess Royale sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per 7 days and Blunders sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Blunders holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Chess Royale has 20K ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Chess Royale ships an update every 5 weeks, Blunders fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 21, 2026 respectively.
