# CUSTOM CAST vs MapGenie

The clearest difference is rating: MapGenie at 4.5 against CUSTOM CAST's 3.4. CUSTOM CAST's advantage is update cadence (every 5 weeks vs every 36 months). On price, review sentiment, ratings volume and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. CUSTOM CAST sells 6 one-off in-app purchases and MapGenie sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

MapGenie holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.4. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 4K and 3.2K respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 48% of CUSTOM CAST's written reviews are positive against 43% of MapGenie's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

CUSTOM CAST ships an update every 5 weeks, MapGenie every 36 months. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 15, 2026 respectively.
