# MHGU Database vs GameCat

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: MHGU Database at none against GameCat's 1. MHGU Database also leads on ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (6.1K vs 95). GameCat's advantage is update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 5 months). On price, rating, review sentiment and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. GameCat sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. MHGU Database asks for nothing beyond the download.

MHGU Database holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MHGU Database has 6.1K ratings behind it against 95, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 91% of MHGU Database's written reviews are positive against 94% of GameCat's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

MHGU Database ships an update every 5 months, GameCat every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 23, 2026 respectively.
