# Tonal vs 8bottle

Tonal and 8bottle both sit at 4.9 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of 8bottle's written reviews are positive against 71% of Tonal's. 8bottle also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and iOS requirement (14.0 vs 17.0). Tonal's advantage is ratings volume (11K vs 8). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.9 for Tonal against 5.0 for 8bottle. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Tonal has 11K ratings behind it against 8, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 71% of Tonal's written reviews are positive against 100% of 8bottle's.

Tonal ships an update every 3 weeks, 8bottle fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 3, 2026 respectively.
